1995
The year Dairy Crest bought Country Life
We're the only leading British butter brand that uses milk exclusively from British dairy farms. The milk is then freshly churned to give our butter its deliciously creamy taste. Importantly, unlike other major brands, our butter sold in the UK is only ever made in the UK, so it has never travelled too far by the time it's purchased.
We're also proud to be supporting The Prince's Countryside Fund, established to improve the long-term sustainability of the British countryside and its rural communities. Every company behind the fund has a special connection to the British countryside through the products they make or sell.
As well as supporting the Prince's Countryside Fund directly, we will also be displaying its logo on all our butters and milk.
History
The Country Life butter brand was launched in 1970 by the English Butter Marketing Company Ltd, a dairy trade consortium founded to promote the sale of English butter under the Country Life brand name. In 1981, the Milk Marketing Board contributed £1.25m (a record spend for the time) to create the Country Life "Buttermen" advertising campaign. The campaign's success can be measured by the fact that it resulted in a 15% market share for the brand.
